Consent to care

Functional Medicine Consent

Please read this before your Functional Medicine consultation or Root Cause Assessment. It explains what consultations include and do not include, how your information is handled, and your choices.

Version 1.0 · 18 October 2026

01About this service

Functional Medicine consultations at Akasha are provided by Subramanian Krishnamurthy, Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (Functional Medicine University, USA) and Registered Physiotherapist (India). They are educational and consultative, and they take place by video on Doxy.me, through the online Root Cause Assessment, and by email or phone where needed.

02Who can use it

  • Adults aged 18 or over.
  • Consultations are offered internationally, wherever local law permits this kind of service. Please tell us which country you are in at each consultation. We may decline or stop a consultation if it is not permitted where you are.

03What consultations include, and what they do not

  • Included: a detailed review of your health story and symptoms, the Root Cause Assessment, and evidence-informed education and plans for nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress and movement. This may include general information about supplements and guidance on lab tests.
  • Not included: medical diagnosis, treatment of disease, prescription medicines, changes to medicines prescribed for you, or emergency or crisis care. Consultations do not replace care from your doctor.
  • Keep your doctor informed of your plan. Never stop or change a prescribed medicine without speaking to the person who prescribed it.
  • If you need specialised medical care, we will recommend the right specialist and help you get there.

04Supplements and changes to your diet

  • Any supplement mentioned is general information for you to review with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take regular medicines (for example blood thinners, or medicines for diabetes, thyroid, blood pressure or mood), have kidney or liver disease, or have surgery planned.
  • Supplement quality and the rules for selling them differ between countries. Stop any supplement and seek medical advice if you notice a reaction.
  • Diet changes such as elimination diets can affect your nutrition. Tell us if you have ever had an eating disorder, so your plan can be adapted.

05Lab tests

  • We explain which functional health lab tests may be relevant and why. Tests are arranged in line with the laboratory regulations where you live. We do not issue laboratory requisitions.
  • Our review of results you share is educational. If a result may need medical attention, we will ask you to see a doctor promptly.

06The Root Cause Assessment and reports

Your answers are reviewed personally by your practitioner. Scores, charts and the root-cause tree are working pictures to guide the consultation. They are not diagnoses. If your answers raise a safety concern, you will be advised to seek medical care.

07When to see a doctor straight away

Do not wait for a consultation if you have chest pain, sudden severe headache, fainting, sudden weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking, blood in your stool or vomit, unexplained weight loss, a high fever that will not settle, or thoughts of harming yourself. Contact your local emergency number or doctor immediately. This is not a crisis or mental health emergency service.

08Risks and outcomes

Responses to nutrition and lifestyle changes vary, and no particular result is guaranteed. Relying on these consultations instead of seeing a doctor could delay the diagnosis of a medical condition, which is why new, severe or worsening symptoms should always be checked by a doctor.

09Your health information

  • We collect what you share: your assessment answers, documents, lab results, messages and consultation notes. They are stored encrypted with our hosting provider, whose servers may be outside your country, and only your practitioner can open them.
  • To help prepare notes, your practitioner may use AI tools with a de-identified copy of your case, with your name and contact details removed. Every recommendation is made and checked by your practitioner.
  • Your information is shared with others, such as your doctor, only with your permission, unless the law requires it or there is a serious risk to someone's safety. You can ask to see or correct your information, as described in our Privacy Policy.

10Video sessions, recording and messages

  • Video sessions use Doxy.me, an encrypted service that needs no account. We do not record sessions. Please do not record without asking first, and introduce anyone else who is with you.
  • Email and messaging apps are convenient but not fully secure. Never use them for anything urgent.

11Where the service is provided from

Consultations are provided from India, and these terms are governed by the laws of India. This does not remove any rights you have under the law of the country where you live.

12Fees and cancellations

Fees, payment and cancellation terms are confirmed with you when you book. If a session cannot go ahead for technical reasons on our side, it will be rescheduled at no extra cost.

13Your choices

Taking part is voluntary. You can ask questions at any time, decline any recommendation, stop a consultation, or withdraw your consent, without affecting your right to care elsewhere.

i

How you give consent

You confirm this consent by ticking the boxes and typing your name before entering the video room, and again before you submit your health questionnaire. Your confirmation, the date and this version number are recorded. If anything here is unclear, ask before your session; you can withdraw consent at any time.
