Physiotherapy Consent
Please read this before your virtual physiotherapy assessment or treatment. It explains what virtual physiotherapy involves, its limits and risks, how your information is handled, and your choices.
Version 1.0 · 18 October 2026
01About this service
Virtual physiotherapy (telerehabilitation) at Akasha is provided by Subramanian Krishnamurthy, Registered Physiotherapist (India). It takes place by video on Doxy.me, through the Akasha Virtual Rehab app (health history and messages), and where needed by email or phone.
02Who can use it
- Adults aged 18 or over. Someone under 18 may be seen only with a parent or legal guardian present for the whole session, who gives consent on their behalf.
- You must be physically located in India at the time of every session, whatever your nationality. You will be asked to confirm this each time. If you are outside India, the session cannot go ahead.
03What virtual physiotherapy can and cannot do
- Assessment is based on your history, what can be seen on camera, and movements and self-tests you are guided through. There is no hands-on examination, manual therapy, dry needling or ultrasound in a virtual session.
- Your physiotherapist may decide at any point that virtual care is not suitable, and may recommend an in-person physiotherapist, a doctor, or tests such as imaging.
- Physiotherapy assessment is not a medical diagnosis of conditions outside physiotherapy. It works alongside, not instead of, care from your doctor.
04Risks and your safety
- Exercise and movement can cause temporary soreness or a short flare of symptoms. Less commonly, there is a risk of a fall, strain or injury.
- Exercise in a clear, safe space, with a sturdy chair or support nearby. If your balance is poor, have another adult with you.
- Stop and tell your physiotherapist straight away if you feel sharp or rapidly worsening pain, chest pain, dizziness or faintness, unusual breathlessness, new numbness or weakness, or any change in bladder or bowel control.
- Tell your physiotherapist about any change in your health, such as a new diagnosis, surgery, pregnancy or new medicines.
05Emergencies
- This is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department.
- At the start of each session you will be asked where you are. If an emergency happens during a session, your physiotherapist may call emergency services to that location and contact the emergency contact you have given.
06Your health information
- We collect what you share: your health history, photos, videos, messages and session notes.
- Health histories sent through the Virtual Rehab app are locked on your device before sending (end-to-end encryption), so only your physiotherapist can read them. Other records are stored securely with our hosting provider.
- Your information is used only for your care. It is shared with others, such as your doctor, only with your permission, unless the law requires it or there is a serious risk to someone's safety.
- Records are kept for as long as the law and professional standards require. You can ask to see or correct your information, as described in our Privacy Policy.
07Video sessions and recording
- Video sessions use Doxy.me, an encrypted service that needs no account. We do not record sessions.
- Please do not record a session without asking first. If anyone else is in the room with you, introduce them at the start.
- Join from a private place where you are comfortable being seen and heard.
08Messages and other technology
- Email and messaging apps are convenient but are not fully secure. Avoid sending sensitive details you would not want seen by others, and never use them for anything urgent.
- The Virtual Rehab app's safety checks are fixed rules written by your physiotherapist. If digital or AI tools are ever used to help organise information, your name and contact details are removed first, and every decision about your care is made by your physiotherapist.
09Fees and cancellations
Fees, payment and cancellation terms are confirmed with you when you book. If a session cannot go ahead for technical reasons on our side, it will be rescheduled at no extra cost.
10Your choices
- Taking part is voluntary. You can ask questions at any time, decline any test or exercise, stop a session, or withdraw your consent, without affecting your right to care elsewhere.
- In-person physiotherapy is always an alternative, and we can help you find it.
How you give consent
You confirm this consent by ticking the boxes and typing your name before entering the video room, and again before you submit your health questionnaire. Your confirmation, the date and this version number are recorded. If anything here is unclear, ask before your session; you can withdraw consent at any time.
